New Podcast - Getting Started with Britt PART 1

"It was huge. It was explosive. Way bigger than I thought it was going to be. Not that I doubted the book; I knew it was going to help me. I know you well enough to know that. Your first book helped me and I wasn't even interacting, just validating that I wasn't alone. I knew I was going to get something out of it. I did not think that four chapters in that I was just going to be different. I'm already different - in a good way."

~ Brittanie Kelso

Do you want to know what getting started with the Foundations Program is like? This week I invited Brittanie into the studio to talk about what her experience was like. She has just started going through the workbook, and in this podcast she discusses going through the initial steps to set up her program.

With any new health and wellness program, goal setting plays a powerful role in helping you achieve meaningful lifestyle change. Without well-established goals, you are less clear on the direction of your behavior change plans, it’s likely that you will put in less effort and persistence in your program, and it is unclear which strategies will be the most helpful in making the changes that you wish.

In Brittanie's podcast (also available on Apple Podcasts and Spotify) we discussed some of the exercises that the Foundations Workbook walked her through as she was setting up your new program. Britt shares how she has tried a multitude of things in the past that unfortunately never worked for her, such as diets, journaling, or weight-loss programs. She was never able to stick with them in the past, so she decided that it was time to take a different approach. Rather than powering through as she usually would, his time she took the time to think in-depth about the things that she wanted in her life, what she wanted to change or improve upon, and even began to recognize some of the challenges that she has faced over and over again in her life. It sounds like those should be easy questions to answer, it can be challenging to stop and think about what it is that we really want out of our life - setting aside what society says that we should want, or what others think that we should want.

The word "selfish" has a negative connotation that often goes along with it, and I have found over my years of working with clients that this is something many of us struggle with. Are we being selfish by taking some time for our own self-care? We worry that the time that we take for ourselves takes away from the time that we spend with our spouse, children, friends, or family. After working with people from all walks of life, as well as what I have experienced in my own, I have discovered the opposite to be true. When we feel our healthiest, that is when we are able to contribute in the most positive and productive ways to every relationship that we have in our lives. Self-care is not selfish, and when you decide to invest in improving your own health and wellness then the relationships in every facet of your life will reap the rewards and begin to flourish.

Check out the podcast to hear everything that Britt had to say about getting started, and watch for the next episode when she shares what it was like after the first week of the program. We will talk about setting her long and short-term goals, looking at her life from a multi-dimensional perspective, and modifying her daily actions after she realized that she had set her expectations a little bit too high.

Check out the Foundations Workbook if you are ready to make the commitment to improving your own life. The workbook has the resources to assist you in working through the program on your own, but if you think that a group environment might be more beneficial to get you started, then you the Foundations 8-week Group Workshop is being offered this summer.

There is no accomplishment that is not within your reach when you are standing on a solid foundation.
