How many times have you tried to improve your health and wellness, only to quit and fall back into old habits after the first week or two? I created Foundations because I wanted to break the vicious cycle of yo-yo dieting that I found myself in. I wanted to create a program that would help me develop a solid foundation that would result in long-term change.
Ten years ago I became my first unknowing client, and it wasn't long before I began to see and feel the changes that it made in my life. It helped me improve my fitness, but that ended up being the smallest part of what Foundations did for me. There were other unexpected changes that I began to notice such as increasing my self-confidence and self-love, challenging me with new patterns of thinking, and developing a growth mindset that truly began to transform my life. After the success that I was experiencing it wasn't long before I began using Foundations with my clients with the hope it would do the same for them.
After all these years I still use Foundations today. It has helped me improve my fitness, accomplish countless career goals, develop a growth mindset, improve my nutrition, and believe that my self-care was important. Foundations helped me take control of my life and overcome every challenge that presented itself with confidence.
I knew how successful Foundations had been for me, but I still wondered what kind of effect it had on some of the clients that I have worked with in the past. Last week I decided to reach out to Marcia, who was one of the first clients aside from myself that used the Foundations Program. We had caught up a little over the last nine years, but I didn't know too much about what her life looked like today, so I was excited when she agreed to be a guest on the Foundations Podcast.
In preparation for our meeting I dug out all of Marcia's old files to remind myself of what her program looked like. I read through my notes as well as the goals that Marcia set for herself. When I pulled out the Foundations Graph that I utilize to analyze a client's behavior data, it was really incredible to see a snapshot summary of the actions that Marcia took during the time that she worked with me. I was quickly reminded of how consistent her behavior was, along with some of the times that she came up against challenges that we worked together to find the right strategy that would enable her to stay the course. Finally, I pulled out her measurements and looked over her impressive physical progress - Marcia lost fifteen pounds, five inches from her waist, five from her chest, and two and a half from her hips. However, those are just numbers and I was much more impressed reading through our notes and remembering much how her mindset, mood, self-confidence, and belief in herself had improved. At that time Marcia was also managing a lot of life challenges, and those changes are really what helped her get through them.
After I read through Marcia's program I was even more excited to see her again and hear how she was doing after all these years! I couldn't wait to find out if she had been able to stick with all the changes that she had made, and if she had truly established the solid foundation that I had hoped.
When I pulled up to Marcia's house and she came to the door the first thing I noticed was that she looked incredible. It was easy to see that she had not only maintained her weight loss, but even more than that, she looked strong. She looked at ease and happy.
When I sat down with Marcia I learned that she had not only maintained her fitness routine, but had even become a BODi Partner, and she now helps others begin their own journey improving their health and wellness. She even still uses some of the the strategies that got us started ten years ago.
You can hear Marcia's story and her feedback in this week's Foundations Podcast episode. Marcia even reminded me of some parts of the story that I had forgotten!
I can't even begin to express how wonderful it was to catch up with Marcia after all this time, and as I drove away I was even more confident in my decision to push forward and publish Foundations. In all the years I have worked with clients, there have been many moments when I questioned myself and wondered if I was really making a difference. In those moments of uncertainty it was always my clients and the results that they saw in their lives that helped me to keep the faith and realize that I can't give up, because I would felt as though I would be giving up on all of them, too.
